Chapter 1Exchange Pieces
- Description
- The armoury is sixty metres long, built in sixteen forty to hold muskets for a regiment; now glass cases down both walls and a spine of cases down the middle, tall, white and tiled. By phone-torch it becomes a corridor of reflections.
- Description
- The conservation workshop upstairs has a long bench under a lamp, grey felt, the good kettle, a humidity unit, a fume hood, lockers and a tall window over the plaza and harbour. Owen's rounds pass through it for the kettle.
- Description
- The entrance hall has tall double doors onto the plaza with a night bar, a leaflet rack, a cloakroom with a little bell and a helmet-shaped donations box. On the night of the Assaying the ticket desk is gone and the Exchange stands in its place.

Chapter 4Room for the Living
- Status
- The cloakroom is cleared for one patient lying down with access from both sides and a bench for someone sitting; the tap behind the counter runs clear into a mop bucket, the staff toilet refills slowly, and the side exit opens onto the delivery apron. The fire door to the loading bay and the glazed door at the foot of the main stair are locked after hound tracks are found in the bay.
